A Break from Remy

This weekend I took a little mini vacation with Remy's little sister, and left Alex with Remy.  What an experience.  Here's is what Alex did with Remy while I have been away:

Remy had gfcf waffles with blueberries... and still had hair Saturday morning

Where is his hair????

Ooow, Daddy got him a curly straw!

Daddy made Remy fish and millet

Taking a little walk before Tina's session
Wow!  Daddy made a balance beam with...

...Rubbermaid tote boxes, the step ladder...

...pieces of wood from our futon frame...

...and a LOT of strong red TUCK tape

Happy Boy

What a great weekend just the boys!
Hmm... I think I should go away more often :)  It sure helps with creating a bit of space between running the our Son-Rise Program and giving quiet time to myself.  I think it will help me be more present when I go home.  And I believe the boys had an excellent time alone with each other.  It also allowed Alex to understand and experience a bit of what I go through every day.  Thank you, Nana, for having us here this weekend.

Have a wonderful day!

Managing Well in Noisy and Busy Place

KIDS ZONE:

During the March Break, I took the kids to Kids Zone between 2:15 and 4:35 in the afternoon, and to me, it was PACKED full of loud, hyper and excited children.  Sophia had been looking forward to playing here, but got freaked out and wouldn't go up into the tunnels.  Remy, on the other hand, was super excited and ran to play right away despite the number of zooming, screaming kids.

Remy hung out in a bubble in a top tunnel for what seemed like at least 10 or 15 minutes just looking around and shaking the bubble making it swing a bit.  I was amazed at how calm and quiet (he did not seem to vocalize) he was despite the very busy and sensory overloaded environment!  It was his sister who was scared and overwhelmed to be there.  He took care of himself very well.  He didn't seem to mind the other children crawling around him or bumping into him at times.  I don't know if other children tried talking to him, but every time I saw him, he appeared content and fine.

Most amazingly, and that I'm grateful for, was when Remy came down from the tunnels for his sister.  With his guidance, Sophia soon joined him in exploring the maze of tunnels and slides.  She stuck by him like he was her protection... her big brother :)  The kids played and played.  They did the tunnels, walked over to the arcade a few times, sat in rides that required tokens (I didn't bring in any money for this today) and ran about until 4:35 PM.  They were great sports for leaving the place when I led them out the gate to get dressed.

They held hands walking in the rain to the car :)  What a nice play afternoon.

After this day's experience, I re-evaluated how noisy and hyper I think my kids are... in contrast, I think my kids are quite tame and calm now.  And I am again grateful to see how Remy takes care of himself in a busy and noisy environment (what I try to avoid most of the time).

Although we have a set Son-Rise Program playroom at home, it's the Son-Rise Program Attitude that we bring wherever we go.  I followed Remy's lead, didn't push him to leave or to play.  And I think that his example of having his own fun despite the noise and busyness, encouraged his little sister to join in the fun :)

Have a Great Day, Everyone!
