The Beginnings of Our Son-Rise Program

Our present seems like a whirlwind; one minute we were carrying on day by day with private ABA services at home, the next minute we decided to abandon that route... then Son-Rise faintly entered our consciousness through word of mouth from another parent with a child with autism.  Then within a few conversations between DH and me, we decided to make the move to Ottawa.  The whole house had to be repainted, garbage (well, to me it was junk but reusable junk) to get rid of, cleaned from top to bottom, people had to come see a spotless home - all this while maintaining two children at home.  What a whirlwind.

In the course of trying to move to Ottawa, DH hooked up with some parent groups on Yahoo! Groups.  One of the parents introduced him to a consultant in Toronto who had Son-Rise training.  We  invited the consultant to our home, but he would only accept if we allowed another family to sit in for the consultation.  We agreed.  It ended up to be another parent I had already known!  They were also interested in the Son-Rise Program (SRP).  After the consultation, it was recommended to us that we attend the SRP Start-Up.

Our house did not end up selling, but we got ourselves involved in the world of Son-Rise :)  Isn't it amazing how opportunities present themselves and re-present themselves to you until you notice and accept.

So, with the help of information and videos from the website www.autismtreatmentcenter.org, we started to implement some Son-Rise principles.  First and foremost altitude and belief were at the core.  It was a great time for me because I had been immersed in the subject of content of personal development in the months leading up to our Son-Rise journey.  I had been reading and listening to a lot of literature by Anthony Robbins, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Neil Donald (Conversations with God), brain plasticity, raw and eco-lifestyles, etc.  So, when the SRP came about, I just knew that it was through the law of attraction!  It aligned with what I believed in.  Now, DH was going to be open to this too.

Despite financial strains, we were very fortunate to make it a reality for me to attend the Start-Up Program in December 2010.  I met a whole gang of wonderful loving human beings there.  They were all they for the love of their children.  I can't tell you how much that alone bonded us.

Not just another autism blog

Okay, so you might think this is another autism blog. It's more than that. It's about playing and growing with my son in his special room. I hope that you'll enjoy these entries as much as I look forward to posting them.

My top priority is to make sure everyone is fed and reasonable clean :), but I promise to make an honest effort to update this blog as needed. These days there are so many distractions and things to do, we really just have to sit down and breathe before just doing what we think has to be done. More on that another time.

Here's a glimpse at the special room:

More next time on how this all started and what this all means.
Until next time, thank you very much for reading.
