Letter: Fund raising for Start-Up and New Frontiers

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Dear Family and Friends,

You may or may not have learned that our son, Remy, has been diagnosed with autism since age 3. Now at 5 years old, he is still mostly nonverbal, still needs to be toilet trained and has difficulties interacting and communicating with others. Remy also lives with multiple sensory issues that lead him to exhibit “odd” obsessive compulsive repetitious behaviours such as ripping. To date, we have tried ABA, Speech therapy, Occupational therapy, BioMedical Intervention (supplements and special diets), as well as allergy treatments.

Last Fall we decided to give the Son-Rise Program® a chance. The Son-Rise Program® was founded upon unconditional love and acceptance was started by two loving parents Barry Neil Kaufman and Samahria Lyte Kaufman to reach their autistic son in his world. www.autismtreatmentcenter.org for more details, or visit www.remysroom.org for more information about us.

Alex and I plan to travel to the Autism Treatment Center of America this Fall (Alex in December and Kim in November) for more training that will help us work more effectively with Remy to help him through his autism.

In order for us to attend these training sessions, we must come up with $4700 USD ($2200 Start-Up Program for Alex, and $2500 New Frontiers for Kim) plus travel costs. Of course, we will personally carry as much of this as we can, but with a single income, many debts to repay and child care expenses, we need some help. Therefore, we are asking family and friends who can do so, to consider helping us with the expenses associated with these trainings.

Kim's New Frontiers Program starts November 13th, 2011 and Alex's Start-Up Program commences December 4th, 2011. Typically programs are paid for one month to two weeks prior to program start dates, so your rapid response will really help.

It is not our intention to place you in an awkward position, and we assure you that we fully understand and respect the fact that you may not be able to help financially at this time. However, if you can, we greatly appreciate it!

Whether or not you can make an optional donation at this time, would you please consider forwarding this letter to as many friends, colleagues, family members and contacts who would appreciate this opportunity to help our beautiful Remy?

Please drop us a line! We would love to hear from you regardless if you can donate.

Thank you for taking the time to read our note. We truly appreciate your thoughts, prayers and support.

With sincere gratitude,

Alex and Kim

  1. Have you done email money transfers before, Kim? Lou and I would like to donate a little something - and that could be a speedy and efficient way to get some funds to you :D We think it's absolutely wonderful that you're going to be getting the chance to go back to Son Rise and that Alex will be visiting the centre for the first time!

  2. Dear Jenny,
Thank you SO much for your desire to help. I've not yet done an email transfer, but I do know that the option is available to us. I just didn't list it in the options because I was unfamiliar on how to do it.

We're very excited about this FUNd Raising campaign! Thank you for taking part. I'll be sending out emails and attachments for the FUN to begin.

  3. It's very easy - all I need to do is set up the transfer online through my bank. An email is sent to you, notifying you that you've received the transfer - with a link included to allow you to select from a list of financial institutions and then log onto your financial institution's website (it doesn't need to be the same bank as ours, either!) I will have established a code which I'll give you - upon entering this information, the transfer is confirmed and the money goes right into your bank account. Genius! Corey introduced me this technology :)

  4. Hi Kim

I have been looking into the Son Rise Program for my son (age 9 diagnosed with ASD). He receives full time IBI with Erinoakkids (IBI provider for Peel region of Ontario). He still needs more services and cannot yet function without an assistant. He is being released January 1st 2012 and will be sent back to his home (local) school even though they do not have the necessary resources to support him. I am researching the Son Rise Program. It seems like a better therapy than IBI/ABA in many ways, but requires so much more from parents. The time and cost of the Son Rise Program education, creating a home school program, the time to stay at home, to find volunteers, to keep positive and funding this all is a tall task. Of course saving our children is worth everything and anything to us. Thank you for sharing your journey and inspiring me and all parents!

I see that you have tried allergy treatments along with Biomedical. We have and continue to do Biomedical Intervention too. I am very excited about our success with this part. The cause effect and benefits are evident to us and all who know our son. Our lab work validates what many Autism specialist Doctors (Defeat Autism Now Doctors) know to be true and that is Autism is a whole body disorder. In order for our kids to recover we need to help the body be well and stop it from creating chaos in the brain. Unfortunately most parents will never know this critical component as most family doctors and pediatricians are not trained or current with Defeat Autism Now (DAN) Protocols. DAN Doctors are educated in the scientific research that autism is a whole body disorder and that Autism Is Treatable!

I highly recommend all parents educate themselves about Autism and understand how it is a whole body disorder. Once parents understand this fact, they are empowered to help their child more fully and effectively. To get started on this necessary journey, please share these top websites for free information on treating autism with your viewers:

    • The Autism Research Institute: www.autism.com
    • View Videos from Doctors and Scientists explaining how Autism is a whole body disorder, on the Autism Canada website: http://www.autismcanada.org/resources/videos.html

That said, we believe that therapy to support the journey back from autism is needed to light the way. I look forward to learning from your home based Son Rise Program school experience and thanks again for sharing your personal experiences with us.

    Thank you,
    Rachel M.

  5. Hi, Rachel!

Thank you very much for your awesome comment, and for sharing the links about biomedical intervention for autism. There is SO much information; it's easy to just drown - so, as parents, I feel that it's necessary to come back to our authentic selves and just sense where to go.

IBI/ABA is definitely very different from Son-Rise. Please feel free to ask any specific questions you have about the program... and there is also the Referral Program. You can get a discount by just telling the ATCA that Kim Sit referred you. Also, I would we would also receive a credit toward another program at ATCA!

All the best, Rachel. Thank you again for reading and leaving your comment. I really appreciate that!

    Kim
